Bathtub Faucet RepairBathtub Faucet Repair Does It Have To Be Difficult?

The most common type of bathtub faucet repair is that of leaks. Dripping taps are usually left until it gets so bad that it has to be repaired, sometimes by a qualified plumber. People tend to let the dripping carry on for years sometimes, but they never think about all of the water they are wasting. Leaks like this can be easily repaired so there is no need to leave the bathroom tap in that condition.

The problem could get even more worse, which then means that a professional has to be called out, which can cost a lot of money. The plumber will charge a high call out charge before they even look at the problem.

This is why trying to repair a leaking tap is probably the best idea, and will save people a lot of money.

Fixing a bathroom tap will only require a few tools to get the job completed. A wrench is one handy tool when it comes to stopping a leaky tap, but wrap a thick cloth around the faucet so that it does not get cracked or broken from the twisting.

The next step is to try to find out if the faucet being worked on uses a washer to seal the water in the pipes.

Different taps have different types and ways to stop water from coming out of the tap when it is turned off. The way to know if it uses a washer is to turn the tap to the off position, then note if it gets harder to turn the closer it is to being completely turned off.

If it gets harder to turn then it could be a rubber washer that the faucet uses, although it is not guaranteed. To replace a washer in a dripping tap it needs to be taken apart. Before attempting this step the water needs to be turned off to the whole house, this is usually a small tap somewhere in the kitchen area.

Once the water supply is off then the tap can be taken apart.

Different brands of faucets will require different methods so it might be best to check what type of tap you have. Replacing a washer is a straightforward process, take the tap apart and get to the washer at the base and then inspect it for damage or wear. If it is damaged in some way then replace the old washer with the new one.
